Start Date: 04/12/08 May Gallery Stroll: Off the Beaten Path The American Literary Underground Comes to UtahKen Sanders Rare Books is pleased to announce Off the Beaten Path: The American Literary Underground Comes to Utah, an exhibit featuring art and ephemera from the Beat Generation that has been graciously provided by Utah State University's Special Collections and Archives. The exhibit runs from April 30th to May 23rd though we will be hosting a reception on Friday, May 16th from 6:00-9:00 at our downtown gallery and bookstore (268 South 200 East). This is event is part of the Salt Lake Gallery Association's May Gallery Stroll and is free and open to the public. The exhibit coincides with the annual meeting of the Utah Library Association and the Mountain Plains Library Association. Utah State University, in Logan, Utah, has one of the nation's largest collections of literature from the Beat Generation and related literary and artistic movements, from the San Francisco Renaissance to the New York School and the Black Mountain School. The corpus of the “Beat and Little Magazine Collection” was donated by the Marie-Eccles Caine foundation. The collections include fine-press chapbooks, artists* books, little magazines, broadsides, and audio and visual materials. Surprisingly, the collections contain a number of regional items primarily from Idaho and Utah. Fifty years after the heyday of the Beat movement, we invite you to come and learn about these collections and their cultural and academic importance. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the original artifacts and correspondence from one the seminal moments in American literary history. We hope to see you there.
