The most important work on the Mountain Meadows Massacre, since Juanita Brooks in 1950. On September 11, 1857, the Fancher-Baker Party of overland trail immigrants headed to California from Arkansas were ambushed and betrayed by Mormons in Southern Utah, with the assiistance of some Piute Indians, leading to the worst massacre of Americans by Americans in the 19th centuiry. 120 men, women and children were brutally murdered and their stripped and naked bodies left at the scene: The Mountain Meadows, south of Cedar City, Utah.
