359; 369pp. Octavo [23 cm] Blue cloth with blind stamped borders to boards. Title and rules gilt stamped on backstrip. Both volumes very good. The underlying boards are exposed at the bumped corners. The spines are rolled. The cloth at the spine ends is frayed and has multiple short closed tears. The spines are faded. There is a 1/2 inch long split in the cloth along the front joint of volume 1. Minor discoloring to boards. The endsheets are foxed, and the front pastedowns have a former bookseller's small labels.
Dixon traveled extensively through the America with the intent of publishing a travelogue, as was popular at the time. This volume includes extensive coverage of his travel and stay in Utah, with his observations of Mormonism. Illustrated. Flake/Draper 2847
