345pp. Octavo [21 cm] 1/4 beige cloth with illustrated paper covered boards, and a blue ink stamped title and vignette on the spine. Very good condition. This was once the property of a church library. The covers and spine are gently rubbed. The spine is rolled and subtly darkened. There is a faint bump that runs vertically through the spine. There is a small light stain on the top right corner of the text block, and there is a minor scuff mark on the bottom edge. The underlying boards are exposed along the edges. The front endsheet has a contemporary gift inscription, a tiny notation, and a small ink stamp. The pages are mildly browned. The text block is fragile in several places, however the book is still quite sturdy.

With 4 color illustrations. Maynard Dixon left the School of Design in San Francisco, finding the school to formal, to become a working cowboy. He then became a sketch artist for a newspaper, and a book and magazine illustrator. By the 1920s Dixon was thought of as America's leading desert painter.
