From the preface, "It is our purpose here to survey the expansion of Mormonism beyond North America by focusing our attention on LDS publishing in the British Empire, beginning with the appearance of the first Mormon tract in 1836 in British Canada, and ending with Franklin D. Richards' 1857 Compendium."
