756pp. Thick folio [31 cm] Brown hardcover with a gilt stamped title on the spine. Very good. The edges of the covers are very lightly rubbed. There is a very small stain on the fore edge of the text block, and the bottom edge of the text block is gently soiled. There is a former owner's name, along with a tiny notation on the front endsheet. The bottom corners of the last couple of pages are creased. The dust jacket is in very good condition. Lightly rubbed. The edges are slightly creased and chipped, and there are multiple small closed and open tears in the edges. The spine of the jacket is faded. May require extra shipping due to weight.
Odd volume. This is the summary volume. The entire volume is filled with full page color and black and white illustrations. "...this opus will always remain a mint of source material. At the time of its compilation, aboriginal culture in the United States, although rapidly disintegrating, was still a living vital reality... The bulk of the material reflects the direct observations of intelligent men who knew the Indians through long contact with them." - Matthew W. Stirling (Director, Bureau of American Ethnology Smithsonian Institution, 1951)
