Folio [29.5 cm] 3/4 brown leather with marbled paper covered boards. Fair. The covers are very heavily rubbed. The underlying boards are exposed along the edgesand surrounding areas, particularly on the front board. There are losses from the edges of the leather and paper of the front board, and there is a large loss from the leather at the head of the spine. Occasional foxing and browning throughout the pages. Endsheets slightly moisture stained. The plates tend to be heavily foxed. Pp. 11/12 and pp. 36-38 of the first section are detached, but present. P. 61 of part 2 has a 3 inch closed tear in the fore edge. There are occasional light moisture stains on the edges of the pages. The pages are browned. As is.


With two folding maps. Has 42 plates. Missing 1 meteorology plate. Missing 8 lithographs. The San Francisco Bay / Los Angeles map has a large closed tear. Subjects include Remarks upon the Construction of a Railroad, Estrella River, Character of Igneis Rock (Soda Lake).
