London: Hurst and Blackett, 1867. Fourth edition, revised. Leather bound. 359; 369pp. Octavo [22 cm] 3/4 black leather with blue pebbled cloth covered boards, gilt stamped titles and gilt and blind stamped decorative patterns on the spines. Volume 1 is in very good condition, while volume 2 is in good condition only. The covers are rubbed, gently bumped and subtly discolored. The underlying boards are peeking through at the corners. The spines are subtly rolled. The edges of the endsheets have numerous dark patches, and the front pastedowns have a previous owner's bookplates. The endsheets, flyleaves and frontispieces are heavily foxed, and there is occasional light foxing and damp staining throughout the mildly browned pages. The text block of volume 1 is subtly cracked at p. 145. The pages of volume two have large dark stains in the edges throughout the first third of the text. Item #26443
