From the Introduction- "Archeological sites are not scarce in the Potomac Valley, but Indian sites which have been carefully studied from an archeological standpoint are exceedingly rare. The Shepard Site has been partially excavated by a number of collectors over the past twenty years, but only recently has the site been studied in such a manner as to produce scientific data."
