SIGNED. 345pp. Octavo [20 cm] Dark blue decoratively patterned cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles. Good. The edges of the covers are lightly rubbed. The spine is very subtly rolled. The edges of the text block are lightly foxed. The endsheets are darkened and foxed, and the pages are mildly browned. There is a 3 inch split in the front endsheet along the hinge, and there is a 1 and 1/2 inch split in the rear endsheet along the hinge. An article about the author has been taped to the front free endsheet. There are 2 large tape stains on the rear free endsheet. The longer tape stain measures 4 inches. The inside margins of the pages are occasionally yellowed. The text block is cracked at p. 321. The dust jacket is in fair condition only, with fading. There are numerous small losses from the edges. The rear panel is completely detached, but present. There is a one inch closed tear in the top edge of the front panel. There are several very small stains on the front inside flap.
Inscribed by Mary Austin on the front pastedown. Mary Austin also wrote Byways to Mexico.
