178pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Original green buckram with embossed design of a pioneer wagon a gilt stamped title on the front cover. Illustrated endsheets. Several black and white illustrations. Good. Ex-library. The edges of the covers are lightly rubbed, and the underlying boards are peeking through at the corners. The title and the library call number have been written in white pen on the spine. The cloth at the spine ends is frayed. Slight spine slant. There is a 1/2 inch split in the cloth at the head of the spine along the front joint. There is a library stamp on the bottom edge of the text block. The front endsheet has numerous library markings. There are also several library marks on the title page. Information about the book has been mounted to the front flyleaf. The pages are mildly browned. Several pages have minor underlining or hatching. There is a small loss from the bottom corner of p. 33, not affecting the text.
Emigrants following the Hastings Cutoff met with disaster and the Cutoff was responsible for the deaths of nearly half the members of the Donner Party.
