913pp. Quarto [26.5 cm] Textured black cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles on the spines, and embossed and gilt stamped designs on the spines and covers. Top edges gilt. Marbled endsheets. Very good. The covers are lightly rubbed and have several small light stains. They are also a bit dusty. The edges of the spine and covers are gently bumped. There are multiple small light stains on the edges of the mildly soiled text blocks. Small stickers on the front free endsheets. The front flyleaves have a former owner's name, address, and lodge information. Pages 49-52 are completely detached, but present. Yellowed pages.
Dr. Mackey practiced medicine until 1854, after which literary and masonic pursuits fully took over his time. He compiled of A Lexicon of Freemasonry in 1845, and then went on to publish many books on Freemasonry, most notably this, An Encyclopedia of Freemasonry.
