399pp. Quarto [25.5 cm] Gray cloth with a gilt stamped title on the spine, and a gilt stamped vignette on the front cover. Very good condition. The covers are subtly faded and slightly cocked. There is a former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. The front free endsheet and title page have a former owner's blind stamp. The dust jacket is in very good condition, with sun fading and creasing. The spine is a bit more faded. The jacket is also very lightly stained and scratched. The edges are a little chipped. There is a 1/2 inch closed tear in the top edge of the rear panel.
Harold Schindler's magnum opus on the life and times of the notorious Orrin Porter Rockwell, bodyguard to both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and hired assassin of the saints. Schindler spent 6 years delving into the controversies and mysteries surrounding this colorful and controversial figure.
