SIGNED. 274pp. Octavo [21 cm] Orange cloth covered boards with a gray ink stamped title on the spine, and decorative gray ink stamped designs on the spine and front cover. Very good. The edges of the spine and covers are heavily rubbed, and the underlying boards are exposed occasionally along the edges. The cloth along the edges is a little frayed. There are multiple splits in the cloth at the ends of the spine. The longest split measures 1/4 inch deep. The spine is subtly rolled and faded. The top edge of the text block is darkened. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. The previous owner happened to be the author's uncle. The pages are yellowed.
Warmly inscribed by the author to his uncle on the half title page. From the Author's Note- "Many of the characters who cross these pages really lived and did the things described here. As to the others, the purely fictitious characters brought in for the story's sake, each is a composite of many men, combined to show a person typical of the place and time."
