664; 680; 738pp. Quarto [28.5 cm] 3/4 blue leather with plum cloth covered boards, raised bands, red leather gilt stamped spine labels, and gilt tooled spines. All edges gilt. Marbled endsheets. Two volumes in very good condition, one volume in fair condition. The extremities are heavily rubbed. The covers are very sun faded. There are several small light stains and faint indentations on the covers, and the underlying boards are exposed at the corners. The gilt stamped edges are a little scratched. Binder's small stamps on the front pastedowns. There are notations and a small stamp on the versos of the free endsheets, and on the front flyleaves. Mildly yellowed pages. Occasional offsetting from the illustrations. There are sporadic small stains and light moisture stains on the pages. The widest moisture stains are thin, and measure 4 inches wide. There are a bit more of them in the top margins of volume 2. Volume 1 is in fair condition only. Almost 1/2 of the backstrip of volume 1 is gone. The front cover has a light stain that measures 3/4 of an inch wide by 3 and 1/2 inches long. The rear board is almost completely detached. The hinges of volume 1 are broken, and the text block is pulling away from the spine. Large light moisture stains in the edges of the pages at the beginning. The text block is fragile in several places.
