2381pp. Very thick quartos. Light brown cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles on the spines, and the author's name stamped in gilt on the front boards. In a decorative paper covered slipcase. The books are in very good and near fine condition. The fore edge of the text block of volume 3 is lightly soiled. The spine of this volume is a little concave. The slipcase is in good condition, with several very tiny stains on the top edge. Mildly age toned. The edges of the slipcase are lightly rubbed. There is a split in the bottom edge, measuring 7 inches long.
May require extra postage due to weight. From the preface- "Alfred Doten was one of the 'old boys' who opened it all up in the Gold Rush, and he became a newspaperman of considerable importance in that other major experience of our mining frontier, the Nevada silver boom."
