J.J. Grandville was the use name of French artist, satirist, and charicaturist Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard (1803-1847). The reinstitution of French censorship of caricature in 1835 caused Grandville to focus more of his time on his illustration work, thereby giving us his illustrations of numerous classic works and his matchless Un Autre Monde (1844).
