The text block is cracked multiple times, and the cords are visible in the inside margins. Pp. 177 has been skillfully sewn in. The book is still sturdy.

With numerous illustrations. Subjects include Iron in China, African Swords, The Etruscan Sword, The Jewish Sword, The Sword in Homer, and much more. Richard F. Burton was an English scholar-explorer and Orientalist who was the first European to discover Lake Tanganyika and to access hitherto-forbidden Muslim cities. Burton wrote prolifically about his travel adventures and also produced almost 30 volumes of translations, including an unexpurgated translation of The Arabian Nights.
