194pp. Duodecimo [18.5 cm] Purple cloth with gilt stamped title and portrait on front board. Illustrated. Very good. The backstrip is heavily sunned, and the boards are more subtly sunned. There is a small ripple in the cloth of the front board. The edges of the text block are very lightly foxed. There are a couple of small scratches in the fore edge of the text block. There are several thin cracks in the front endsheet along the hinge. The longest crack is 3 inches long. The front free endsheet is partially detached. The top edges of a few of the pages near the end are a little creased. Browned pages. The book is sturdy.
Possibly the most vitriolic and anti-Mormon book ever issued in the 19th Century. This the scarce hardbound edition, not the much more common paperback. With 16 preliminary leaves of plates. Flake/Draper 4365.
