675pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Black cloth with a gilt stamped title on the backstrip. Good. Ex-library. The extremities are gently rubbed and bumped. There are a couple of faint library stamps on the text block edges, and there are two library stamps on the title page, and a numerical ink stamp on the following page. Library marks have been removed from the rear endsheet, resulting in large areas of abrasion. There is a former owner's name on the front flyleaf. The text block is cracked at the beginning and end. The fore edge corners of the pages are sporadically creased. Five of the pages near the beginning have marginalia and ink stains. Tanned pages.
George Q. Cannon's translation of the Book of Mormon into Hawaiian. A second edition of this volume is likely the only copy most collectors will ever see. The first edition is incredibly scarce, with many stories (most apocryphal) surrounding the print run's fate. In over thirty years we have only ever handled a single copy of the 1855 first edition, purportedly only 300 of which were ever bound. Flake 730.
