Quarto [27.5 cm] 1/2 brown paper with black cloth covered boards, a white stamped title on the spine, and a black ink stamped vignette on the front cover. Very good. The boards are just a little bit concave. The edges of the spine and covers are gently bumped and rubbed. There are several small ripples in the cloth of the front board. Light soiling on the bottom edge of the text block. In a very good dust jacket. Subtly yellowed. There are 3 or 4 light orange stains on the rear panel. The largest stain measures roughly 2 inches wide by 1 inch tall. The rear panel also has some other minor soiling.

With 743 illustrations. With text by the artist. Ward produced six wordless novels between 1929 and 1937, and although Ward continued to be an in demand illustrator for the rest of his life, these early works find him at the absolute height of his creative and artistic powers.
