SIGNED. Quarto [27.5 cm] 1/2 brown paper with black cloth covered boards, a white stamped title on the spine, and a black ink stamped vignette on the front cover. Very good. The rear board is just a little bit warped. The edges of the spine and covers are gently bumped and rubbed. There is a small soiled scuff mark on the bottom edge of the text block. In a near fine dust jacket, with very light soiling. The rear panel has multiple faint ripples.
With 743 illustrations. With text by the artist. Signed by Lynd Ward on the half title page. Ward produced six wordless novels between 1929 and 1937, and although Ward continued to be an in demand illustrator for the rest of his life, these early works find him at the absolute height of his creative and artistic powers.
