335pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Green cloth with a gilt stamped on the backstrip. Very good. There is a thin raised area in the spine that runs from the head to the foot. The edges of the covers are very lightly rubbed and bumped. There are roughly 5 small light stains on the bottom edge of the text block. Previous owner's address labels on the pastedowns. The dust jacket is in very good condition, with light rubbing. The rear panel has just a minor trace of soiling, and there is a small stain on the front panel. The dust jacket also has other stains, however they are on the internal, non-visible side. The edges have multiple small chips and short closed tears.
After the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, a small group of saints headed by James Strang headed north and eventually settled at Beaver Island on Lake Michigan. James Strang ran the island as a personal kingdom even being dubbed "King Strang".
