Octavo [21.5 cm] 3/4 black leather with rose-colored paper covered boards, raised bands, and gilt stamped titles and panels on the spines. Top edges gilt. Other edges untrimmed. Matching rose-colored endpapers. Very good. Light rubbing to the extremities. The corners of the covers are just a little bumped. A handful of the spines are subtly faded. The front pastedowns have a previous owner's bookplates. The pages are tanned. The threads are visible in the inside margins of several of the volumes, however the books are very sturdy. Item #35645
With illustrations by the author, Richard Doyle, George Du Maurier, and Frederick Walker. The final volume includes Thackeray's contributions to Punch, not previously reprinted, and a list of Thackeray's characters.
