SIGNED. 252pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Green cloth covered boards with black ink stamped titles on the spine and front cover. With 6 portrait plates (including the frontispiece of Brigham Young). The extremities are mildly rubbed and bumped, and barely perceptibly soiled and stained. There is a very tiny split in the cloth along the rear hinge. The endsheets are cracked along the hinges, and the free endsheets are darkened. Previous owner's signature below the author's signature. The pages are age-toned.
Inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf. First edition of this depiction of early politics in Utah between Mormons and Gentiles. R. N. Baskin was an attorney from Ohio, who while on the way to California, decided to stay in Utah because of its mining potential. He was elected Mayor of Salt Lake City in 1892, and went on to become Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Utah in 1899.
