272pp. Octavo [21.5 cm] Red cloth covered boards with a gilt stamped title on the spine. The top edge of the text block has the publisher's red dye. The endsheets are illustrated with natural scenes of the west. In a pictorial dust jacket, with other Robert M. McBride & Company titles listed on the rear panel. Very good. The edges of the spine and covers are gently bumped and rubbed, and the underlying boards are just barely peeking through at the bottom corners of the covers. There is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. Roughly 20 pages have small stains in the bottom margins. Tanned pages. The dust jacket is in good condition, with edge tears. The two longest tears are 3" and 4" long. There is a piece of tape covering the tears at the head of the jacket's spine and the surrounding area on the front panel. Light damp stain on the spine. The dust jacket is also mildly age-toned and soiled.
From the dust jacket- "With an enthusiasm born of intimate acquaintance, Mr. Frothingham has attempted a new evaluation of the playgrounds of our golden West. He takes the reader on enchanting journeys to such little visited places as the Rainbow Bridge, the Giant Cactus Forests, and the recently developed Carlsbad Cavern."
