274  and 142  pp. Quarto [28 cm] Frontis illustrations in both volumes of William Hogarth. The half title of volume 2 has a hand painted illustration of a woman carrying a water bucket on her head. Illustrations throughout designed by Hogarth and printed by The London Printing and Publishing Company. Original black leather binding with raised bands, gilt tooled spines, gilt stamped decorative borders on the covers, and gilt rolled edges. Gilt titles to spines. All edges gilt. Very good. Subtle restoration work along the joints, spine ends, and edges. The extremities are lightly rubbed. Occasional foxing on the pages. A small amount of pages have light damp stains in the top margins. The largest stain measures roughly 4 and 1/2" wide by 1" deep. There is a small chip in the leather at the head of the spine of volume 1. The books are sturdy.
