480pp. Octavo [24 cm] Black cloth covered boards with gilt and blind stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Good condition only. The extremities are rubbed and lightly stained. Faded backstrip. The cloth at the spine ends and edges. There is a small portion of a previous owner's name label on the spine. The underlying boards are exposed along the top and bottom edges. The endsheets are split along the hinges, and the hinges are broken. The endsheets have a former owner's notation, and two ink stamps from a previous owner. There are also several small areas of adhered paper on the endsheets. The pages have sporadic small stains. The plates are foxed. A couple of pages have markings and underlining.
This publication was the successor to the "Amateur" and predecessor to the "Improvement Era." Subjects include Insect's Feet, Electricity on Street Cars, Melbourne Cup Day, Bees and Wasps, and more. With the engraved plates, "Francis M. Lyman," "The Pioneer Women of Utah," "F. D. Richards," and "Geo. Q. Cannon."
