438pp. Large octavo [23.5 cm] Textured blue cloth covered boards with a gilt stamped title and designs on the spine, and a gilt stamped bust of Henry Harmon Spalding on the front cover. Map endsheets. Very good. The spine ends and edges of the covers are very lightly bumped and rubbed. The pages are tanned, but very clean. The dust jacket is in good condition only, with numerous pieces of thick tape backing small closed tears in the edges. The tape has resulted in large tape stains along the edges. There is a 1 and 1/2" long pen mark on the front panel. Price-clipped.
From the dust jacket- "The significance of the career of Henry Harmon Spalding, so completely overshadowed by the dramatic martyrdom of his colleague, Marcus Whitman, who met death at the hands of the Indians, is expressed for the first time in this biography of the courageous pioneer missionary."
