263pp. Octavo [21 cm] Navy blue cloth with a light green ink stamped title on the spine, double ruled lines at the head and tail, and the publisher's device stamped on the front board. Top and bottom edges trimmed. Fore edge deckled. Good only. This copy once belonged to a reading room. The extremities are gently rubbed and bumped. The spine is a bit sunned and rolled, and a few letters in the title have been rubbed away. The cloth slightly frayed at the spine ends and corners (underlying boards exposed briefly). There are two large ink stamps on the rear endsheet, and there is a previous owner's name on the title page. The front endsheet is cracked along the hinge, the front hinge is weak, and there is a small loss from the top edge of the front pastedown. The pages are age-toned. Several pages in the text have large red ink stamps.
A combination of realism and fantasy. This work was completed a few days before Andreyev's death in Finland in 1919. The prefaces describes this work as "an absorbing satire on human life."
