329pp. Octavo [19.5 cm] Orange cloth decoratively stamped in white and green. Good. The covers are a bit warped, and the spine ends and edges of the covers are bumped. The edges of the front cover are subtly darkened, and the top edge of the rear cover has a light stain that measures 3 inches wide by just under 1/2" deep. There is a contemporary owner's notation on the front free endsheet, and there is a tiny label on the rear pastedown. The text block is cracked several times.

Adeline Knapp was not only a journalist and a writer, but an early environmentalist as well. Here, the main character, a terminally ill man is lifted by transcendent experiences in nature. In the desert, he is forced to survive, and his illness and his desire for vengeance wane.
