426pp. Octavo [22 cm] Orange cloth over boards with a gilt stamped title and vignette, and two black ink stamped panels on the spine. Very good. The top edge of the text block is lightly foxed, and there is a minor scuff mark on the bottom edge of the text block. The spine ends and corners of the covers are gently bumped. There is a bookseller's small label on the rear pastedown. The pages are toned. In the pictorial dust jacket illustrated by Leon H. Leiderman, in very good condition. The jacket is yellowed and foxed, and there are short tears in the edges.


Vardis Fisher's novel, "Children of God," won the Harper Prize. The theme of this novel is the conflict between old and new as represented in the struggle between Ahijah, the prophet of the God of Wrath, and Solomon.
