168pp. Octavo [21 cm] 1/4 black cloth with gray cloth-effect paper over boards, and gilt lettering and decorative stamping on the spine. Very good. The spine ends are gently bumped, and the covers show light edge wear. There is a previous owner's name on the front pastedown. With the pictorial dust jacket, designed by Aldous Huxley, in very good condition. The spine is sunned, the inside flaps and the rear panel are subtly age-toned, and the edges are a little chipped.

Aldous Huxley was known mostly as a novelist and essayist, but he also wrote short stories, poetry, travelogues and film scripts. In 1950 the American Academy of Arts and Letters awarded him with the prestigious Award of Merit for the Novel, a prize that had also been awarded to illustrious writers such as Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Mann.
