The author, Gladys A. Reichard, worked for four summers with the weavers learning how to make every type of Navajo blanket, and at the same time, learning their ideas, opinions, and ambitions. In this book, all processes in the making of a Navajo rug are intricately described, and reasons are given for every move made. Also included, are short lessons summarizing the directions.
