345pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] Green cloth lettered and decoratively stamped in gilt and black. Top edge trimmed; other edges deckled. Good. The extremities are mildly rubbed and bumped. There is a small stain on the top edge of the front board, there are numerous light stains on the rear board, and the top of the text block is subtly damp stained. The gilt title on the backstrip has rubbed away, and the spine is very subtly rolled. There are thin tide marks on the top edges of the rear flyleaf and endsheet. The pages are tanned. From the collection of Berkeley book collector and letter press printer, John Ruyle, with his notes in pencil on the front free endsheet.
A scarce Edwardian tale, and a weird book with a fantastic atmosphere. A tale of a young girl raised in a remote Irish castle who believes she is a fairy changeling as a child, and when she is older, no longer truly believing that, attempts to convince others that the castle is haunted by fairies. With uncanny overtones and insanity.
