340pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] Red cloth covered boards with black lettering on the backstrip and front board, and a black ink stamped rose design on the front cover. Very good condition. Lightly bumped and rubbed at the extremities. Slight spine lean. There is a subtle protrusion in the backstrip, that runs from the head to the foot. The endsheets are just a little darkened along the hinges, and the pages are yellowed. In Hubin.

A gothic novel based on the unsolved murder of a prostitute which took place in 1872. The original edition is scarce. Joseph Shearing and Marjorie Bowen are the pseudonyms of Gabrielle Margaret Vere Campbell Long.
