Engraved black and white frontispiece portrait of John Charles Fremont. Eight pages of publisher's advertisements at the rear. Good plus. The extremities are mildly darkened, bumped and rubbed. There are several areas of very minor staining on the covers, and there is a pinhole in the cloth along the front joint. The cloth at the spine ends is chipped, and the underlying boards are exposed at the corners. There is a contemporary owner's notation in pencil on the front free endsheet. The pages are foxed. Structurally very sound.
From the Preface- "His Memoir, exhibiting his personal characteristics, will show the remarkable vigor of his mind.- the astonishing rapidity with which he mastered any subject... His Narrative of Adventures and Explorations, written in the discharge of a professional trust, and before he had any political aspirations, will be found to corroborate and strengthen the impressions made by the Memoir.
