Volume 22, Publications in the American West. With 2 maps in the rear pocket. Stansbury's expedition was of great importance, comparable to those headed by John C. Fremont and James H. Simpson. He was given instructions to study the Mormons and their settlements, the neighboring Indian tribes, to find a supply route from Salt Lake City to the Oregon Trail, and to undertake a detailed study of the natural resources of the region.
