Folio [44 cm] 1/2 dark red leather with orange cloth over boards, and red leather gilt stamped spine labels. In an orange cloth covered slipcase, in very good condition, with light surface and edge wear. The book is in very good plus condition, with light rubbing at the spine ends and corners of the covers, and a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Publisher's leaflet tucked in.
Bernardino Genga's work was first published in Rome in 1691, and remains a unique venture in the history of anatomical illustration. This is copy number 1261 in an edition limited to twenty-eight hundred copies printed for the members of Editions Medicina Rara Ltd. on a rag paper bearing the private watermark of Medicina Rara and manufactured by E. Towgood & Sons, Sawston, Cambridgeshire, England. The plates for the printing were derived from a copy of the 1723 London edition belonging to the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, Scotland. Bound at the bindery of A. W. Lumsden, Loanhead, Midlothian, Scotland.
