546pp. Octavo [23 cm] Full black leather with gilt lettering and decorative stamping in gilt and blind on the spine and covers. Red speckled text block edges. Pale green and white floral endpapers. With sixteen pages at rear left blank for "Sunday school and personal history memoranda." Illustrated. Very good. The spine and covers are mildly rubbed along the edges. There is a loss from the head of the spine that measures roughly 1" wide by 1/4" deep, and there is a small loss from the leather at the foot of the spine. The spine ends have had a bit of restoration work. The endpapers are just a little darkened at the edges, and the title page is just barely starting to detach at the base. The pages are clean, and the book is very sturdy. Flake 1559.
From the Preface- "The period from the assembling of that little group of Sunday School pupils gathered in the humble schoolhouse in the Fourteenth Ward, Salt Lake City, December 9, 1849, to the grand and inspiring demonstration in the Tabernacle in the same city, October 8, 1899- nearly fifty years later- we have in the following pages endeavored to briefly and faithfully chronicle."
