56pp. Octavo [23 cm] 1/4 black cloth with textured gold paper over boards, the title stamped in gilt on the spine, and the title stamped in decorative black ink on the front cover. Publisher's black top stain. Good plus. Rubbed at the extremities. The front hinge is a little soft. There is a contemporary owner's name, along with the year, on the front free endpaper, and there are multiple tiny stab marks in the inside margins of the preliminary pages. Pages 8 and 9 are stained along the indide margins. The text block is just barely beginning to pull away from the backstrip, and it is cracked several times.
Lettering by C. B. Falls. Drawings by Aaron Douglas. James Weldon Johnson also wrote The Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man, meant to be taken as a factual account, which was published anonymously in 1912. This is Johnson's second collection of poetry.
