Octavo [22 cm] Bluish gray cloth over boards, with brown leather gilt stamped spine labels. Top edge gilt; other edges deckled. The frontispiece illustrations and the illustrations in the text are accompanied with tissue guards printed in red. Most volumes are in very good condition, and several volumes are in good condition. The extremities are mildly bumped and rubbed. There is some very subtle staining on a few of the covers and spines. The spines are faded, and they are slightly frayed at the head here and there. There are small losses from the leather spine labels, occasionally obscuring a bit of the titles. There are light damp stains in the margins of pages of volumes 6 , 7 and 9. The largest damp stains measure just under 2" wide by 1 and 1/2" deep. The tissue guards are age-toned. With the facsimile of an autograph letter of Jane Austen in volume 12.
Number 357 in an edition limited to 500 sets. With Colored Illustrations by C. E. Brock and H. M. Brock. The brothers, Charles and Henry Brock, were able to provide wonderfully colorful illustrations for Austen's work, because major breakthroughs were being made in color lithography in the 1890s.
