477; 496pp. Octavo [23 cm] Mottled brown and green leather with gilt tooled spines, black leather gilt stamped spine labels, and decorative gilt stamped borders on the covers. Engraved frontispiece illustrations by Maria A. Maverick and Emily Maverick sculp. Printed in two columns. Good. The extremities are rubbed, and the underlying boards are exposed occasionally along the edges. The covers of volume 1 are hanging on by a thread, and there is a 2" crack in the front joint at the foot of the spine of volume 2. There is a contemporary owner's name in ink on the title page of both volumes. The pages are foxed, and have sporadic large, but light tide marks.
