A tale set in the 1880s, about an Irish-American railroad worker who is convicted of killing his wife and her lover in a jealous rage, and then sentenced to a chain gang. At the time of publication, chain gang stories were popular, and this story was made into a Universal Film, starring Pat O' Brien, a film which was thought until recently to be long-lost.
