The spine ends and corners of the covers are gently bumped and rubbed, the spine is slightly rolled, and there is a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. The price-clipped dust jacket is in very good condition, with a number of small open tears in the edges, and moderate darkening at the jacket's spine.
Includes the twenty-two illustrations from the 1861 American edition. First Borzoi edition edited, with an introduction and notes, by Fawn Brodie. After traveling through the Holy Land, Burton turned his eyes to the Great Basin. The book tells of the noted adventurer's travels through Indian country to visit Salt Lake City and study the polygamous practices of the Mormons there. A classic of Western travel narratives.
