Octavo [21 cm] Black cloth over boards with black and white printed labels on the backstrip and front board. Publisher's black top stain. Black endpapers. Very good. Subtly sunned at the spine, and along the edges of the covers. There is a previous owner's name on the front flyleaf, and the pages are mildly age-toned. In a very good dust jacket, with darkening (more so at the jacket's spine), light rubbing and, and minimal soiling on the rear panel. There are multiple small chips and closed tears along the edges. The two deepest tears are closed, and measure 1" long.

A sixth The first of Ward's six wordless novels that is told exclusively through 144 striking woodcut illustrations. Lynd Ward was not only a talented printmaker, but he was a socially-conscious storyteller as well. "Gods' Man," a modern morality play, was the work that built his reputation. It depicts the deadly bargaining of the soul that a struggling young artist is willing to make.
