389; 456pp. Octavo [22 cm] Rebacked, with brown leather, six gilt stamped compartments, and red and black leather spine labels. With the original mottled leather boards. Very subtle restoration work at several corners of the covers. Engraved titles, frontispiece portraits, and a series of stunning full-page plates engraved by Medland and designed by Thomas Stothard. Fourteen pages of publisher's adverts at the rear. Fair condition. Both boards of volume 1, and the rear board of volume 2 are detached, but present. There are address labels, and bookplates from previous owners on the front pastedowns, and a bookseller's listing for the book has been mounted to the front pastedown of volume 1. The rear free endsheet of volume 1 is detached, and laid in. The pages are sporadically foxed, and there are stains in the top margins of a number of the pages of volume 1. The illustrations are offset on the opposite pages. A few pages have light tide marks. A handful of illustrations are lacking the tissue guards. Complete, with 17 plates.
