736; 860; 755; 707pp. Quarto [27.5 cm] A mismatched set. Ex-Library (Fielding Academy). Full brown pebbled leather with gilt tooled spines, elaborate gilt stamped designs on the covers, and beveled edges. All edges gilt. Various shades and patterns of decorative floral endpapers. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Brigham Young in volume 1. Volumes 1-3 are in good condition, and volume 4, the scarce volume, is in very good condition. The spines are sunned, and the extremities are mildly rubbed. There are library markings and brief contemporary inscriptions on the preliminary pages. The text block of volume 1 has nearly completely come away from the covers, and the text block is cracked multiple times. In this first volume, the tissue guard and illustration at p. 310, along with p. 311/12, are completely detached, but present. There are small soiled areas in the margins of the majority of the pages of volume 2 (including some plates), and the corners of the pages are sporadically dog-eared. Heavy soiling on p. 612. The text block of volume 3 is cracked here and there. The illustration at p. 315 in volume 3 is loose, but present. The text block of volume 4 is very sturdy. Complete. All plates present. For the most part, the illustrated plates are very bright and clean.
