775pp. Octavo [24 cm] Light brown calf with raised bands, gilt stamped titles on black leather spine panels, and gilt ruled lines on the spine. Marbled text block edges. Good. The front cover is slightly warped, and is cosmetically cracked along the joint. There are cracks in the rear joint, each measuring roughly 2" long, at the head and the foot of the spine. There are a number of very light splash stains on the spine and rear cover. The endpapers are split along the hinges. Despite these flaws, the book is sturdy. With the fold out map, "Map of Alaska and Adjoining Regions compiled by Ivan Petrof," in fine condition. Wright-Howes B86.
Volume XXXIII of Bancroft's colossal 39-volume work covering the history, and to some extent the anthropology, of Central America, Mexico, and the American West of the United States.
