Inscribed by Jeffers on the front free endsheet. Also signed by Mallette Dean, the printer in charge of devices, on the type set information page. Robinson Jeffers lived in seclusion in a stone house that he built by the ocean, near Carmel, California. He was heavily influenced by Nietzsche's concepts of individualism, and believed that humans had developed a largely self-centered view of the world. He felt passionately that we must learn to have greater respect for the rest of creation.
